17-year-old boy in Lagos allegedly drugs, rapes 14-year-old girl

 

A secondary school dropout was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly drugging and defiling a 14-year-old girl in the state's Ejigbo district.

The suspect, Pelumi Oloyede-Bello,17, who is said to be an agent of an electricity firm, was claimed to have met the victim when he went to install prepaid meters for some residents of Akinwunmi Street in the Ejigbo area of Ile-Epo.

The girl tried to recharge her parent's prepaid meter, so Oloyede offered to help. He took her to the Okota branch of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, where the refill was completed.

He reportedly took the girl to a hotel at Jakande Gate on her way back to Ejigbo, where she was allegedly drugged and raped. He admitted during questioning that he had drugged her with 200 milligrams of tramadol.

"I offered to go and recharge myself with their meter, but her grandmother asked her to accompany me. I bought her a bottle of soft drink on our way back. But I went to the hotel before giving it to her, where I dropped 200 milligrams of tramadol inside. I took her to the hotel where I charged N2,500 and had sex with her," he said.

"She was sleeping too long because of the medication and it was late when she woke up. When she got home, they asked what kept her long, and in the end, beat her to extract the truth from her.

"In my life, I've never committed such a felony. It is the first time this has occurred. Due to the noise of the power generating sets in my compound every night, I used tramadol to sleep. It was my hope to never end up in this kind of trouble.

Two years ago, I dropped out of school because my mother, a widow, didn't have money to pay for my SSCE exam. I began to install prepaid meters and was paid a commission of N1,000. I saved the money to register for the SSCE exam. My mother works as a maid to keep the family going, "he said. He said."

The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest.

"The boy is under investigation and in our care," he said.
