Man City: Sergio Aguero says injured knee surgery 'went well'

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero says after having surgery on his injured knee that "everything went well." The Argentine had journeyed to Barcelona to see a knee specialist in the midst of fears that might be over his season. His boss, Pep Guardiola, said it was too early to set a deadline for the return to practice of the 32-year-old.

Asked if Aguero will be fit for the Champions League resumption on August 7-8, City's Spanish boss said: "I don't know right now." He added: "After the surgery is over we'll know the time Sergio will come back to play with us."

In the home side 's 5-0 Premier League victory over Burnley on Monday, Aguero was forced off before half-time, following a defender Ben Mee challenge. However, Guardiola confirmed Aguero had a knee problem before the match, in his post-match interviews.

In the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie, City is due to face Real Madrid with a 2-1 lead in Spain from first leg. The player tweeted on Wednesday: "Everything went well and I'm going to start the recovery soon." Thank you so much to Dr. Cugat and his team and to everyone for so much assistance.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says that when his side entertains City on Thursday night (20:15 BST), he won't have any thoughts on the Premier League title race.

If Liverpool beats Crystal Palace on Wednesday, City is going to have to win Stamford Bridge to keep the title race alive for another week before playing Liverpool on July 2.

"I know the situation, but I can only concentrate on us," said Lampard, whose side is currently sitting fourth in the table, four points behind Leicester in third place, with a game in hand. "I honestly didn't think of the situation in Liverpool, it doesn't make us any chances at all.

"We admire Liverpool and Manchester City as two great teams, they have been impressive in the last two or three seasons but we can only look at what this match means to us.

"We've got a job to do and our job is to go up against one of the world's best squads in the last few seasons and try to get an outcome."
