Arsenal defender re-new his contract to one-year-David Luiz

Arsenal defender David Luiz has settled with the club on a new one year deal. Defenders Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares, from Flamengo and Southampton respectively, will also join the Gunners permanently at the end of their loan deals.

Meanwhile midfielder Dani Ceballos has extended his Real Madrid loan contract to the end of this season. "I'm really delighted we'll have those players in our squad for the future," said Edu, the technical director of the Premier League club.

"They were part of a long-term technical plan [manager] Mikel [Arteta] and I established and they bring our squad the right balance."

Brazil center-back Luiz, 33, joined the Chelsea club last year but was sent off last week as Arsenal came back to Premier League action, a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

"David is a really influential player to us. He's played most of our matches this season and was vital to the team," Edu added. "His passing, his on- and off-pitch contact with the squad-he supports us."

Spain's centre-back Mari, 26, and Portugal's right-back Soares, 28, will finalize their moves when next month's transfer window opens.
