Supporters of President tear-gased in DR Congo

Officers in the Democratic Republic of Congo have used tear gas and shots fired to evacuate President FĂ©lix Tshisekedi's protesting supporters. Hundreds of them arrived-many on motorcycles-to demonstrate about planned reforms to the judicial system outside Parliament in the capital, Kinshasa. People were chanting and burning tyres, as they protested.

They say a bill before parliament is designed to ensure former President Joseph Kabila's allies are guarded from prosecution.

This is because they believe it would potentially give the justice minister a believe in who is being charged. Analysts believe Mr Kabila has maintained a substantial hold on power since he stepped down in January 2019-and his political coalition leaders still control the cabinet and parliament.

Following disputed elections in December 2018, Mr Kabila stood down after 18 years in office.
