Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha rejected allegations that EFCC had salvaged N5.7bn from him. EFCC had confirmed on Thursday, June 11 that N5.7bn had been recovered from N7.9bn confiscated from Okorocha Okorocha, but confronted the anti - corruption agency to upload the transaction records to demonstrate its case.
Rochas Okorocha has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has never retrieved N7.9bn from him. O n Thursday, June 11, the former-governor responded to a statement credited to the EFCC zonal head in Port Harcourt office, Imam Usman, that the commission had returned N5.7bn out of the N7.9bn reportedly recovered from him to the State government.
On Friday, June 12, Okorocha's spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo, said the EFCC had been misinformed to peddle falsehood against the former governor. He requested the anti - corruption agency to release names and account owners where they were domiciled with the money claimed to have been recovered from him.
"The EFCC as a commission or Mr. Usman Imam as a person and head of the Enugu area then, and today, that of the commission's Port Harcourt Zone, never recovered N7.9 billion or any other amount of money from Rochas Okorocha. "With this denial, consequently, we question EFCC or Mr. Imam as the one who made the accusation to prove us wrong by publishing the bank accounts details the money was discovered and the account owners.
"Mr Imam spoke of assets owned by Okorocha which had been marked by the commission. It is also essential that Mr. Imam publish those properties because Okorocha had obtained the properties marked about twenty years ago, "said Onwuemeodo.
In the meantime, Okorocha said a kid from Almajiri could become Nigeria's president in the future, hence the need for the government to give them worthy interest that would secure their future.
It was claimed that Almajiri, also known as Almajiranci or Almajirai for the male gender seeking Islamic knowledge, is a program of Islamic education in northern Nigeria.
The system mandates a boy to travel in search of knowledge. And Okorocha calls for the end of the system where many young boys have been violated, with the resettlement case being the final straw fracturing the camel 's back.
