NDLEA seizes 1184,995 kilograms of illegal drugs in Oyo, winning 27 convictions

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Oyo State said that, between January and June 23, it confiscated 1184,995 kg of various narcotic drugs, psychotropics, one local pistol, one Jackknife, one cartridge and safeguarded twenty-seven state convictions, adding that the breakthrough followed the agency's synergy with other security outfits.

In an interview with Vanguard in Ibadan yesterday the NDLEA State Commander, Mrs. Josephine Obi, made the disclosure. She further said thirty-five people who used illicit drugs were given brief intervention by the agency while seven others were currently undergoing rehabilitation. Obi said: "Three more have been admitted this year, and five have been released."

The commander urged those who indulge in hard drugs to shun the act because it could destroy their future, emphasizing that the agency had renewed its vigor and strategies to tackle drug challenges across the state.

She said further: "For those who have drug users, don't give them up or victimize them because it's not the end of life. "NDLEA is always available to any organization, school, and individual for enlightenment on the dangers of hard drugs and their effects," she assured members of the public that the agency would continue its crackdown on the illicit drug market.

"We must ensure the department has not only disrupted the activities of those behind the horrific drug trafficking but will also destroy their networks and eventually eliminate them," promised Obi.
